Her go-it-alone ways and disregard of protocol perpetually place her at odds with her methodical colleagues, who are resentful and fearful of her. “Why is it that everyone around you winds up dead but death doesn’t touch you?” her superior officer accuses. Yet it is this seeming affliction which has made Yukihira a force to reckon with in the field while increasingly hardening her against pain and sentiment. The job has already cost her the life of her father and the estrangement of her husband. Sooner or later, it will threaten to take away the most important person still remaining in her life - her 8-year-old daughter.
